¡Zambomba! Flamenco Christmas Around the Bonfire

A Soulful Celebration of Singing, Dancing, and Community

I wanted to share a little piece of my heart with you today—something deeply rooted in my culture and close to my soul.

As a child growing up in Spain, during the long winter nights in Montánchez, the ancient village where I was born, the neighbors would gather around the warmth of the fire to sing and dance. We called it Zambomba, a tradition passed down through generations.

But as the years went by and TV entered our lives, many of these traditions began to fade Fascinated by the screen, we seldom gathered to sing and dance anymore… except in one special place: Jerez de la Frontera.

For the past 20 years, I’ve been documenting this soulful tradition of the Zambomba in Jerez. I’ve captured on video the essence of Flamenco Christmas—the songs, dances, and community gatherings that fill the air with magic.

In Jerez, neighbors still organize bonfires in the streets and plazas, where we sing and dance under the stars, as if there's no tomorrow.

But this ancestral tradition is in danger of fading away.
That is why I decided to share
this endearing tradition of the Zambomba with the world
through a new documentary series I'm working on...

As we move into post-production, I wanted to give you an insider's look into the origins of this captivating tradition. I’ve put together a video to show how vital this celebration still is.

If this sounds intriguing to you, I'd love for you to be part of this journey with me. You can watch the video and stay updated on the project by clicking here.
